Database: Wind & solar power plants

There is a huge potential for renewable energy applications on islands. Due to the traditionally very high electricity prices for island off-takers and because of international support schemes renewable energy applications on islands have a long history. There is a huge number of small applications which could not be considered in this database. We are applying the following criteria:

  • wind or solar installations
  • 200 kWp or more
  • main focus: hotels / resorts, rural electrification, private islands
  • cases in which the islands is connected with a sea-cable to the mainland are not considered
  • so far there is no strict definition for an islands, some exceptions are indicated (Hawaii, Azores, Canary Islands, etc.)
